I was watching a movie today and decided to put a top 10 movie rec list up here in my journal for you all to enjoy. Who knows, you might like the movies too! If you've seen any movies you think I might like, post them here!
Now, without further ado, here's the list (in no particular order).
Ladder 49This movie hits really close to home for me. I'm not a firefighter (yet) but I can understand the camaraderie and sense of family that the firefighters experience. I never particularly liked Joaquin Phoenix, but this movie changed that. It was brilliantly done, extremely realistic and a phenomenal tribute to the brave men that risk their lives each and every day to save those of others. I cried like. A. Baby. But in a good way. Beautiful movie.
Dracula Dead and Loving itLet's face it. Leslie Neilsen owns. This movie is hilarious, witty and brilliant. A great twist on the Dracula stories. I always end up in tears from laughing so hard. It's the perfect movie to watch on a Friday or Saturday evening when you feel like you need a laugh.
Phantom of the OperaThough it's got nothing on the actual stage production, it's very well done. The costumes are fantastic, the sets are beautiful and the music is amazing. I didn't picture Emmy Rossum as Christine Daae, but Gerard Butler makes a perfect Phantom. This one actually converted me to an opera/musical fan. Amazing movie!
Something's Gotta GiveBest romantic comedy since As Good As It Gets. It's witty, funny and sweet. It's a more mature type of humor than a lot of the movies out there and isn't cheesy like a lot of romantic comedies. Plus it's got Keanu Reeves. 'Nuf said.
The HolidayYes, it's a complete and utter chick flick, but it's amazing. Jack Black is phenomenal, and the rest of the cast follows closely behind. It's both heartbreaking and heartwarming at times, with the latter winning out in the end. Just don't watch it immediately following a break up.
National Lampoons Van Wilder - Rise of TajThis is one of those stupid comedies that I never thought I'd find funny. Turns out it's hilarious and though slightly disturbing in it's naughtiness at times, it's great. The perfect movie for when you just need to laugh without thinking about what you're watching.
Interview with the VampireAs much as I despise both Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, they did phenomenally well in this movie. It's chilling but absolutely brilliant. I wasn't particularly thrilled with the novel, Rice's style just doesn't do it for me, but the movie was pretty cool. That and you've got Antonio Banderas as Armand. He does a wicked job.
Take the LeadIn continuing with the Antonio Banderas theme, I have to say I love this movie. I'm not usually one for the dance type movies, but this one was pretty great. I loved Banderas' character in the film and I loved the passion. I highly recommend this one.
FractureBest movie I have seen in a long time. It was chilling, suspenseful and made me think. It was a real mindfuck. The story was brilliant and though not perfect, it was believable enough to be great. Ryan Gosling did a very good job alongside Anthony Hopkins. Wicked movie.
Jurassic ParkThe book and the movie are completely different, but that's alright. They're both brilliant. If you treat them as separate entities, the movie is awesome. I love the cast, I love the effects and I love the science. The action is great and it's suspenseful enough to hold your interest. Great piece of work!
